History of the Honor Society of the Lambda Sigma
It was five decades and eight years ago and it sure was a well spent fifty-eight years of the Honor Society of the Lambda Sigma.
The faithful day was in a bright September of 1958 when Dr. Tobias Enverga requested Ms. Pura Buenaventura and Mrs. Guadalupe Cadiz to organize a sorority of the cream of the crop feminine students. These two ladies picked out 25 young, intelligent active lady students of the then Luzonian Colleges. They were made to undergo a whole month initiation and were marked by a red SLAVE tag on their backs. Fifteen of the twenty-five coeds survived the initiation which finished on October 12, 1958. They were awarded the lambda Sigma pin of membership and the recognition of being the first batch of Sigmans and were called the Charter Members.
The name SIGMAN has always rung a bell in the school. The name simply means scholarship and leadership. These two qualities are expected from each Sigman and they must live successfully to it. They must because they are bound to do so in a greatly inspiring and solemn candle-light acceptance ceremony.
The sorority is synonymous with numerous activities that are all worth- remembering. Among those were: flower offering to the portrait of Juan Luna at the Quezon Provincial Capitol Art Exhibit, holding of Parent’s day, Convocation honoring scholars in a dedication day Program, holding of Leadership Seminars and many others.
When Martial Law was proclaimed last September 21, 1972, HSLS together with the other students’ organizations stopped in operation. It was reactivated in 1972.
And so in the fifty seven years of existence it can look back with pride and sense of achievement. It has reared some thespians, singers, dancers, campus, journalists and beauty queens in their own rights. The future hopes that the tradition be cherished.

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
